Dr. Simpson specializes in the assessment of autism spectrum disorder and other neurodevelopmental disabilities. He is extensively trained in the use of gold-standard diagnostic instruments, including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), and the Autism Diagnostic Interview–Revised (ADI-R). His internship and post-doctoral residency at Firefly Autism, conducted in collaboration with Children’s Hospital Colorado, established the foundation of his expertise by providing intensive training in the diagnostic evaluation and intervention planning for children across a wide range of developmental profiles. Over the course of more than half a decade of continued clinical practice, Dr. Simpson has further honed and expanded these skills, allowing him to provide families with evaluations that are both highly accurate and deeply attuned to each child’s individual needs.
In addition to his autism specialization, Dr. Simpson has broad clinical experience in evaluating psychological differences, intellectual functioning, learning disabilities, executive functioning, ADHD, developmental delays, mood concerns, and behavioral challenges. His work has also extended to vulnerable populations, including his externship at Urban Peak Homeless Shelter, where he assessed psychiatric needs among adolescents and young adults experiencing homelessness.
What distinguishes Dr. Simpson’s work is his ability to integrate clinical expertise with educational advocacy while maintaining a strong grounding in evidence-based intervention. In addition to his background as a licensed psychologist and school psychologist, Dr. Simpson spent five years working as a Registered Behavior Technician, providing applied behavior analysis (ABA) services—the most widely researched and evidence-based intervention for autism. This experience gives him a unique perspective on how diagnostic findings translate into practical, individualized supports that benefit children and families. Coupled with his knowledge of special education laws, procedures, and classroom-based interventions, Dr. Simpson is able to guide families seamlessly through both diagnostic and school evaluation processes. He views every assessment as a collaborative effort, ensuring that families remain active participants and that each child’s strengths are highlighted alongside areas of need..
Dr. Simpson is committed to the belief that high-quality, comprehensive evaluations can be transformative for children and their families. His approach is rooted in evidence-based practice, shaped by compassion, and designed to provide families with the clarity and direction they need. Whether working with parents, schools, or community providers, Dr. Simpson strives to make the evaluation process a meaningful step toward growth, understanding, and support.
